A building used for producing malt from grain, especially for brewing.

A malting house was a building used to produce malt by allowing grain, usually barley, to germinate before being dried.

Malt was an important agricultural product because it was used in brewing beer. Malting houses could form part of a farm, manor or village economy.

References to malting houses in historical records provide evidence of local industry and the processing of agricultural produce.
