Homage referred to the sworn body of tenants who served as the jury of a manor court. Selection for the homage was based less on the category of landholding and more on the individuals’ standing in the community, knowledge of local customs, and reliability as witnesses.

These tenant-jurors presented matters to the court, witnessed land transfers, determined inheritance claims, enforced manorial customs, and assessed penalties.
