Land used for grazing animals.

Pasture was land used for grazing livestock such as cattle, sheep and horses.

Pasture could form part of the lord’s demesne or could be subject to common rights allowing tenants to graze animals according to local custom.

The amount of grazing available was an important economic resource, and disputes over pasture rights were frequently dealt with by manorial courts.
