The right to graze animals on another person’s land in return for payment.

Agistment was the practice of allowing animals to graze on land belonging to another person in return for payment.

In manorial contexts, lords could receive income by allowing tenants or outsiders to graze livestock on pasture, woodland or other suitable areas.

Agistment rights were often regulated by local custom, and disputes concerning unauthorised grazing could be brought before the manorial court.
