A right of pasture or grazing, often connected with a particular holding.
A leaze was a right to graze animals, usually on pasture belonging to a manor or estate.
The term was often associated with customary rights attached to a holding. The amount of grazing available could be limited by local rules concerning numbers of animals or seasons of use.
Like other common rights, leazes were important economic resources and could be regulated by the manorial court.
